Local government is the ‘engine room’ of open space and green infrastructure planning. Historically, green infrastructure has been designed in isolation, park by park. But we now know that by integrating components of the city, we can reinvest the public realm to solve multiple, overlapping and complex problems, creating a vibrant, resilient and healthy city. We can increase our open space by focusing on gaps in the network of the city and the network of open spaces can deliver open space outcomes with sustainable transport, drainage and key ecological links.

Mosaic Insights and REALMstudios are delivering the 2019 Moonee Valley Open Space Plan. We have developed a unique, data-driven urban analytics approach to understand the existing open space network and draw deep insights to inform the plan. Through our local and international networks we are bringing social, economic and environmental data together to create a plan based on a rigorous understanding the distribution of green space, urban ecologies, communities and urban water.
