Minta is a flagship greenfield estate for Stockland, and a key development for the City of Casey, who have a vision to create Australia’s most liveable and smart city. Mosaic Insights, Alluvium and the Centre for Urban Research at RMIT University developed a ‘Shadeway’ to create a densely forested connection along the spine of the development.
The Shadeway will allow residents to move along a cool, shaded route that links through the development. A dense urban forest will shade a shared pathway, and be irrigated using a novel passive irrigation system that transfers roofwater to underground permeable storage zones that are designed to supply the specific water demands of the selected trees. The forest will grow faster, provide more shade earlier in the development, be resilient to extended dry periods and provide a point of difference for potential house buyers.
