Alluvium completed the concept through to detailed design of a sediment basin and wetland at Jones Park, Brunswick East, for Moreland City Council in 2017-2018.

The aim of the project was to treat stormwater and create a community asset that connected people with water. The project involved the retrofit of an existing pond into a functioning wetland which could treat stormwater and improve habitat opportunities for birds, ducks and frogs. The project involved designing a stormwater diversion, new sediment basin and liaising with landscape architects and structural engineers for the design of a retaining wall, boardwalk, and landscape elements such as a rock ‘waterfall.’

The Jones Park Wetland is an excellent example of stormwater infrastructure that delivers on multiple objectives in a challenging location and constrained area. Despite the location on a former landfill site the project was designed and constructed safely and economically.

Construction of the site was successfully completed in early 2019.
